This Week in Cedar Falls: March 28 - April 1

This week is a big one for Cedar Falls! Here's what's going on for the rest of the week and the weekend!

The Waverly Horse Show is in full swing in Waverly, and horse enthusiasts from all over the country decended upon the Cedar Valley! They're here to buy and sell some of the most premium horses and equipment around! The event runs March 27 to March 30.

The Waterloo BlackHawks play Tri-City on Friday night at Young Arena and Muskegon on Saturday night. Both games start at 7:00pm and tickets can be purchased at http://www.waterlooblackhawks.com/.

The UNI Community Music School will host their spring solo festival on Saturday, March 31! For more information on the event, contact Cindi Mason.

Karla Ruth, accoustic folk/pop artist, will be at Cup of Joe on Main Street in Cedar Falls Saturday, March 31 from 8:00pm-10:00pm. Her music stylings combine pop, jazz, blues, and folk with lyrics of life, loss, love, and everything in between.

Groundbreaking banjoist/composer/bandleader Bela Fleck has reconvened the original Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, the extraordinary initial line-up of his incredible combo, with pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy back in the fold alongside Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, and percussionist Roy "Futureman" Wooten. The group, which touches almost all types of genres, including classical, jazz, bluegraa, African, electric blues, and Easter European folk, will play at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 31 at 7:30pm.

The Child and Baby Expo of Iowa takes place Saturday, March 31 at the Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo. The event runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm and whether you are expecting your first child or loving being a grandparent, you'll find products, services, and activities that will make your family life easier, healthier, and more fun!

Friday, March 30 is the kickoff for the USAW Folkstyle National Wrestling Tournament, which runs through April 1.. Young people from all over will compete at the UNI Dome in the final USA Wrestling individual event of the folkstyle season. The event schedule can be found here. Also, as part of this event, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum will host a special autograph signing with Dan Gable on Friday, March 30 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. In 1972, Gable won a gold medal at the Munich Olympics without surrendering a point. As the head coach at the University of Iowa, he led the Hawkeyes to to 15 NCAA team titles in 21 years, compiling a 355-21-5 dual meet record.
